Little Angelito

"Angelito" Altar Statue ~Sold~

Okay, I feel a little protective and motherly towards this little guy...Sometimes, my creations feel like my children - is that weird? The sugar skull in Angelito's hands is made from paperclay (I'm loving this stuff, btw!). I'm not a sculptor or 3-D artist (you should see some of the pieces I "sculpted" for my Mom in school, yikes!), but I'm pretty pleased with how I crafted his little skullie. :)

Here are my crafted cake plates made from vintage plates, candlesticks, and epoxy:

I have to say that dealing with the epoxy wasn't too bad, it was a pretty simple project! It's hard to make out the details in the pic, but they were a hit with my gift recipients. I love recycling the old and unwanted and creating something fresh and new!

What a great idea with the cake plates, girl! I have pieces of jewelry that I make and love so much. Sometimes, I wonder why they take awhile to sell. Then when they do, I get all happy. I love everything I make (almost), but some pieces I really love love love.

Angelito is crazy bad-ass! I hope that's okay to say. Nice job!

I just showed my husband your paintings and he loves them.

Oh I love Angelito! Now that's my version of an angel child. And I don't think it's weird at all, that you have children you create. There's the imaginary phase, the labor pains and the actual birth of your works just like a "physical pregnancy." That's why your art is so special, you put so much love into every piece. You are so creative, Leila, I would never, ever think of turning such ordinary plates into beautiful works of art.

I wanted to tell you, I lady came into my office and LOVED the paper mermaid by you, that I had hanging up - I gave her your etsy site and blog :)
she asked if she could buy the one I had lol I said absolutely not ;)

MAB, I do the same thing! Sometimes I love a piece and it won't sell for awhile and other pieces don't quite come out as planned- and they sell right away! Go figure! I am very emotionally attached to my creations, and I love it when they find a home. :)

Thank you, Morgaine and Jenny!

Brandy, thank you for the love and for showing your hubby my art! Yes, absolutely you can say "bad-ass"! ;)

Pili, thank you so much, and yes, you must make some cake plates! It's such a fun project!

Wendy, I've never thought of creating my art in comparison to actually giving birth, but your analogy makes perect sense. :) Thank you so much!

Lol Becky, that's right, she can cut out her own mermaid! ;) Thank you so much for letting me know and for the referral!
