Homesteading

"Sonja" (she's a Rhode Island Red and so fuzzy and soft!)

With the addition of our new baby chicks (we have all 6 now), I've really been inspired to get more into homesteading. I've finally gotten around to doing more of the baking I've been wanting to do. I made my very first fresh bread from scratch, which was more labor intensive with all the kneading than I realized! It actually turned out perfect and tasty, wow! I then made a batch of cupcakes for my "Stitch n' Bitch" group, those actually turned out tasty too! If you are into cupcake baking, you must check out Sweet Estelle's Baking Supply on Etsy, love her goodies! I just ordered these, and I adore them:

"Retro Peacock Picks"

What is your favorite homesteading pastime? Baking, gardening, sewing? I wish sewing could be one of mine, but alas, I'm barely able to get my machine threaded at this point. Since I'm in such admiration and envy of those that are skilled with a sewing machine, I created this print in their honor:

"Costurera (seamstress)" 5 x 7 Print

Hmm, with all that said, I feel a "homesteading" inspired blog giveaway coming on! Stay tuned, my friends! ;)

Leila I will enter for sure if you have a give away never mind a homesteading one ☺
Oh your little chickes are getting so big ! That type was my Gramma's fav type of chicken I've been told & she loved the gernsey type of cow .
Leila I cannot stand sewing on a machoine but love love hand sewing .You may find the same for yourself . there are kinds of nice handi crafts to be done with hand sewing . look up waldorf felt crafts and stiching etc.
Nydia from bringing up salamanders blog sent me a great site for embroidery stiches for felt work .
My first ever sewing project as a kid was a pillow case ☺
Leila you know what I remember from in MX when we were in Guadalajara ? was the ladies with those beautifully painted sewing machines !! ☺
I am trying to save money to by an old tredle machine .I think if I have one then maybe I will like machine sewing .It will somehow seem not a chore to sew then ;-)
now I'm off to see the cupcake supplies ☺

When I saw the "Costurera" print I had to share it with all my seamstress friends, it's so amazing!

I've never been too homey, but I do think food made from scratch is so much more healthy than ready made, so I feel less guilty when I eat cupcakes that I've baked myself! And I agree Sweet Estelle is a great place to get baking supplies!

I've always wanted to make my own bread.... the smell alone has my mouth watering. The chikies are too cute and loving the costurera print too.

I wish I lived in a place zoned for chickens I would love to raise some. I've been saying I'm going to start my own garden forever but keep slacking on it. If you haven't already read it I think you would really like the magazine, MaryJanesFarm here's a link to their website: http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/

Your artwork always makes me smile, and that was much needed today, and I thank you for it :)
hmmmmm.... homesteading. I live in an apartment in the city, so not much of that going on here, but if I had a yard, I'd be growing my own veggies! I sew, but own no machine right now, and I've never been good enough at it to make clothes, or anything like that. Just crafts! heehee! Crocheting now, that's cool! I can do that :) I'm also a former chef who believes in cooking everything from scratch, which is my real contribution to tradition.
Those baby chicks are adorable! I really wish I could raise some myself now!

I love those retro peacock picks! Awesome find seriously. And your chick is sooo adorable! My hubs and I always think about having chickens on our property. I love the thought. Your new print is truly amazing. It actually made me wish I didn't let my sewing machine collect dust on my shelf haha. I know some of my sewing friends would love it. I may tweet about it later;)

My favorite homestead past time is making jewelry. Soon to be metalwork! Once I get my workshop going in the basement. Cannot wait! I'm happy to hear you're baking! Something else I would one day love to get into.

Have a great weekend xoxo
